Episode 165: Finding Behavior to Praise with Dr. Saul Axelrod

We are very excited to have Dr. Saul Axelrod on the How to ABA podcast. He is a professor emeritus at Temple University and has been in the field of ABA for many years. We met him at ABAI in Philadelphia and knew that our listeners would learn a lot from him.

Dr. Axelrod shares his career journey and how he got into the world of behavior analysis. We discuss bridging the gap between the research side and the clinical side of ABA, how the field has changed since Saul’s career began, and expanding the field beyond ASD.

So many of the ABA principles that we now see as fact and/or take for granted were only just being discovered when Dr. Saul Axelrod first got into ABA. One very important principle we shouldn’t take for granted is giving our learner’s positive reinforcement. We can always find behavior to praise. Make sure to download our Applying Universal Protocol cheat sheet below for help with managing challenging behavior.
