There is a lot of staff turnover in our field. It’s important to take care of ourselves to avoid burnout, but figuring out how to manage a BCBA work-life balance can seem like a mystery. I used to own several clinics and manage a staff of 25. While it was fun and rewarding, it was a lot to handle. As the owner, I felt constant pressure and my workload was well over 80 hours a week. After COVID forced me to step back from my responsibilities, I realized just how overwhelmed I was.
Many of us are busy moms in addition to working professionals, and it can be really difficult to juggle all of our priorities. Maintaining a work-life balance looks different for everyone, and it’s important to know what works for you. It’s OK to step back every once in a while and not feel guilty about it.
