There is a lot of staff turnover in our field. It’s important to take care of ourselves to avoid burnout, but figuring out how to manage a BCBA work-life balance can seem like a mystery. I used to own several clinics and manage a staff of 25. While it was fun and rewarding, it was a lot to handle. As the owner, I felt constant pressure and my workload was well over 80 hours a week. After COVID forced me to step back from my responsibilities, I realized just how overwhelmed I was.
Many of us are busy moms in addition to working professionals, and it can be really difficult to juggle all of our priorities. Maintaining a work-life balance looks different for everyone, and it’s important to know what works for you. It’s OK to step back every once in a while and not feel guilty about it. We discuss the importance of prioritizing your own unique needs, setting healthy boundaries, and why you should make time to fill up your tank and recharge.
